At the moment the discussion about freedom of speech is glowing in Denmark because of the arabian worlds reaction to the drawings of Muhammed presentet in a danish newspaper and the danish goverment refuse to apolegize.
I, myself are a protestant(Luther) and like most danes I'm not that religious but still I don't think that it is apropiate to step on such a delicate matter.
The danish goverment defend themselves by clamming that apolegizing would be an attack on the freedom of speech.
Yes, as danish christians we can portray Muhammed as we wish, but why do it in a public printet newspaper? Is that freedom of speech, to offend others religion just because you can? Those drawings was provocative material without any purpose and that is not what I call a matter of freedom of speech but rather a matter of mutual respect to other cultures.
So what is freedom of speech and how should it be used?
I think that the Danish Government is misunderstanding the meaning of freedom of speech. Freedom of speech basically is to say whatever you want about someone, but without damaging the image or reputation of that specific person. In this case the danish government made fun of someone that is religious sacred in the arab world, so yeah the danish gov't must apologize to the arabs.

it's more of a freedom of press issue if u ask me. but i ain't sure if that exists there. but from what i know is that freedom of press is possible as long as it is true. don't quote me on this though. for all i know it's false knowledge. anyways, i would guess that it's a freedom of press issue.
It comes down to the fact that there is no such thing as the bill of rights or freedom of speech in Denmark
If this was the case then yes this totally breaks a personf freedom of religion not speech, and what this newspaper did in the eyes of american rights was holding back ones expression of their religion...I can't remember the exact term.
But it all comes down to the fact that it is in Denmark not here so there are different rules... the world is very technical
freedom of speech when u express what u are feeling and u are free to say anything.. evry person should have freedom of speech.. but i personally if someone prohibited me to my freedom of speech.. maybe ill became a rebel person.. coz i dont want person control me..

freedom of speech/press or watever is ok if u dont step on their toes...ouch. In the case of denmark's, i think its wrong to provoke another religion esp. on sensative issues...but wat about the case of tat iranian president? he shoots his mouth like nobody's business. Sometimes all should be of an open mind and debate things out...
Debate is truly the solution to many things. In my opinion it's not "kneeling to fundalism" to give an apolegy to the arabian world, but to admit to their demand of actual punishment, of the newspaper and the artists, is.
