Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid
This is a new one to me, here I thought I was keeping up with FMP. I know of the first one and "Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu!" but never heard of this one up until recently. So who all knows about this title? Relatively new since it was released in 2005, according to animenfo, but what does everyone think of it?

Grumble Grumble Grumble
I heard the first episode was shown middle of last month on WOWOW premium digital satellite channel, and is still in release. 'FMP: The Second Raid' continues the story line of the novels, which means that it should be considered more of a sequel to the first 'FMP' series then to the side stories of 'Fumoffu'. The broadcasts are also rated R-15 (the same ratings that 'Girls Bravo' and 'Elfin Lied' had on their WOWOW Channel showings...)

What you probably saw was 'Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu' which is based on the comedy short side-stories series. The Second Raid just started showing in Japan, and remains unlicensed...
Re: Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid
Well that answers quite a few questions for me, thanks Len. I am gonna have to start downloading this series and see how it is, it sounds really good.
Re: Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid
I've seen up to episode four. It's most excellent. Top production values all the way, And they aren't pussy footing around with humor much anymore, it's more serious and dark than the previous seasons, which I think is great.
Re: Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid
1. Yeah, as said, TSR is the continuation of the original Full Metal Panic novels.
FMP the first series titled only Full Metal Panic, was based on the first 7 novels. TSR is from 8 and sense its not all out yet i cant tell you if it'll finish the novels up or if it'll only get a couple more.
2. Read the novels if you can find them, they are amazingly well written and great in general.
3. TSR actually has not followed the novels very well at all up till this point. But episode 5 will be finally following the story better. The first 4 episodes were almost completely made up.
-Changes from novel to show so far
1. The first like 4 episodes...NEVER HAPPEN.
2. Episode 5 is the first chapter in novel 8 (the first novel after the end of FMP)
3. The twin lesbian girls...in the novel they are MALE twins but they are straight, so no yaoi luckily. And they dont come in until way later.
4. The doctor guy is made up.
5. lots of other crap.
4. The opening amuses me.
Why? I dunno if you guys have spoiler tags and im too lazy to check so
*SPOILERS*
A normal person who hasnt read the novels will not think twice about the fact that Al (AL) *the AI of the Arbalest* as in, the Arbalest, has more time in the opening then ANYONE ELSE. But if you have read the novels you'll know that Al is the main character along with Sousuke and everyone else is more of a side thing including kaname and the others. If you didnt notice this, i advise watching the opening again....Not only does the actual opening start and end with a shot of the Arbalest, it also shows him more then anyone else during it.
*END SPOILERS*
5. Other stuff im too lazy to talk about right now =/
and yeah for the time the show spends on "The End of Day By Day" which is novel 8 (the first one after the first 7 that FMP was based on) the series will be a much more dark, serious, and in-depth, non-comedic show. In truth, FMP is not about Sousuke and Kaname, or anyone else or anything else like that. Its more of one of those "finding yourself" kind of things, and the person doing that is Sousuke, with the help of the AI AL. So dont be suprised when you dont see very much Kaname, and arnt laughing at all later. That is, if the show follows the novels better then they are now. Although after EODBD theres a little more comedy thrown in....but how long will they pull out EODBD i dunno...it is a fairly in depth and kind of long 'arc' so it might take like half the series. lol. But maybe they will make TSR completely just that novel, i dunno. But there are several more novels AFTER EODBD so it all depends on how they do it.
