wasn't it sloth that killed hughes? or was he attacked by sloth and then escaped to be killed later by envy?

Sloth lead him to Lust who tryed to kill him, but he got away and Envy killed him

hughes is really smart though he figured out that sloth wasn't who she was pretending to be because of the location of the mole on her face.

after Lust's failed attempt at killing Hughes...
(Hughes threw a knife into Lust's forehead and Lust gives him a compliment)
...Envy/Ross led Hughes outside
Hughes contacts that librarian chick
after the call, he tells Envy/Ross about the mole on the left side of the real Ross' face
then he shoots Envy/Ross in the head
Hughes drops his photo of his wife and daughter
Envy picks it up and as an act of irony, shapeshifts into Hughes' wife
Envy then shoots Hughes in the chest and Hughes dies
