![]() ![]() Credits: 210 | The Future of A.I. Okay, the development of humanoid androids got me thinking. Knowing quite a bit of VB programming, I do know how to make "basic" AI. My question is this; What will become of our A.I. programs? Will they evolve on there own after a certain point? Or will they even be able to "think" for themselves at all. Thinking can be dangerous. What do you think will happen?

For the AIs to be able to think on their own we would have to program them probably to complexity of a semi-sentient mind, at least. One thing's for sure, though. They'd be horrendously flawed.

![]() ![]() Credits: 210 | Re: The Future of A.I. There are a lot of instinces (in movies) where the AI was accidentally over-developed and was able to think and make decisions on it's own. Terminator being one of them. The problem with that is that so much work goes into peogramming such an advanced AI that it's nearly impossible to do without knowing that you've programmed it to "think" for itself.

![]() ![]() Credits: 210 | Re: The Future of A.I. oh no... first android now AI i mean come on it's like people really do wanna die.... i don't like any form of machinery at all... well that's a lie i love my computer to death and it would be nice for it to think for itself and do my work for me..... while i watch anime... but that is cruel. AI is probably being developed further as we speak. except it will be our downfall because we will have machines that will think of us and it's just really creeepy for me.

![]() ![]() Credits: 210 | Re: The Future of A.I. By "thinking" I mean a computer being able to develop it's own thought process, values, and attitude towards things such as humanity. Not just being able to do something on it's own, but rather a computer that can make desicions AND ask its own questions with no input from any human. A computer that can think like that is aware of it's makers and its own existence. they'd even develop a sort of "individuality." - a senario from Ghost In The Shell Stand Alone Complex

![]() ![]() Credits: 110 | Re: The Future of A.I. I dunno... ever read Flatland? Pretty interesting read (if a bit dry in spots). Also, have you heard of the group creating a society of AIs? A little outdated (just a week or so). http://www.newscientist.com/channel/info-tech/dn7674 Thought that would be interesting for you.

Newbie | Re: The Future of A.I. In other words a computer with a valid opinion. It's a hard topic to talk about, especially if you try to consider all the TV and movies out there that blow thing up it to scary proportions (Terminator, .hack, etc.) There was this one movie that came out in '01. Artificial Intelligence: AI. If any of you remeber it i think it pretty much sums up what will happen when people start to mess with it. Quoting a Film Review by James Berardinelli: The story centers around David (Haley Joel Osment), a child substitute "mecha" who represents the first of his type - a synthetic who can actually love. In this case, the object of his incompletely-understood emotion is his "mother", Monica Swinton (Frances O'Connor). Monica's husband, Henry (Sam Robards), who brought David home as a pilot project from his workplace, Cybertronics of New Jersey, is more wary of the robot child. And, when one of David's actions endangers Monica and Henry's natural son, Martin (Jake Thomas), Monica is forced to take David into the woods and "lose" him. So yeah, i believe in the end, AI would do more harm then good. not to mention all the controversy (and dangerous side effects) if someone happened to pull it off. |
