Thread: getting others interested

With the exception of two people, none of my friends like anime and I can't really see them ever liking it. Some people just can't get into it.

But if you really want to try to get your friends into it, I suggest Cowboy Bebop. It seems like a series that is good enough to stand on its own, even as just a show, not an anime. Its stories are so entertaining that I could see someone who isn't into anime at all liking it.

I say try to find something pretty general, and don't go into specific genres too much right away. Unless they tell you they are into romance, drama, horror etc.

So I'd suggest Cowboy Bebop, Trigun and maybe something like Love Hina. Nothing with too much ecchi either though. That's how those stupid "all anime is porn" crap gets into their heads.

I got a girl in with Chobits, now her nick is Tchii =P

It all depends on the person, and how she views the world, and what she likes, I got another girl friend whom got in by watching Lain & Evangelion :P

I have no clue about the other questions but(please don't laugh...) Sailor moon got me started, I watched it with my sister when she was little..then when I got in the hospital she brought me manga to read..the rest is history

I think a lot of people got started with Sailor Moon. I know that was the first anime I was really, REALLY into. Man..me and my friends in grade 7...all we talked about was Sailor Moon.

Samurai X got me started .
The ones i suggest to get your friends into anime are Cowboy Bebop, Golden Boy and if those fail try princess mononoke its got everything. Oh u could also try Gundam Wing .

I have this friend who was also not into anime, but I got her interested when I told her about the anime closest to my heart, Fruits Basket, its delightful storyline, its wonderful characters as well as how many of the scenes can be hilarious and some really heartbreaking and moving. I got her interested in some others that has the same theme, and I noticed that she becomes captivated whenever I tell her some anime where she can relate herself into. I don't know if this also applies to others, but I guess it just depends on the person.

To get other people interested in Anime, you want to avoid the series with violence, gore and the bizarre, (So no 'Neon Genesis Evangelion') but at the same time, something that is different from what is available in the popular media... I quite agree. Actually, while I was watching Spirited Away, all of my family got curious and they watched it with me, even though they weren't really into anime. It was the same with Princess Mononoke. I guess what made them more eager to watch it is because the movies were in English...

As many of you have stated earlier it is all about the other persons interests, Anime is such a broad thing that everyone can find something they like. I personally started when a friend of mine hooked me up with Macross..very long time ago then cause it wasn't very popular in the US I didn't see anything for like 10 years, but then I got a hold of Akira and now I have over $3000 dollars worth of the stuff!
