Ghost In The Shell 2: Innocence released in the UK
After a nationwide theatre release only a few months ago (October), Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence will hit stores in late February 2006 as a DVD box set.
The DVD will be released as a Deluxe Double Disc Edition chock full of goodies. A slew of never before seen footage, a world exclusive dubbing with the original American cast of 'Ghost in the Shell', and as well a bonus booklet featuring a foreword by Jonathon Clements, co-author of The Anime Encyclopedia.
Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence was the first anime ever to be nominated at the prestigious Cannes International Film Festival. It's main nod was the Palm D'or, which unfortunately it did not win.
Four years in the making and is an extravagant marriage of both technical and visual dominance. Combining 2-D cell animation and newer 3-D computer graphics seamlessly, the anime stepped across boundaries and for the first time for a Japanese produced anime, into theatres.
Set in the year 2032 in an Earth where the few remaining humans co-exist with cyborg amalgamations, human spirits inhabiting mechanized bodies, dolls, and full robots. The story follows a cyborg detective named Batou who works for the government's anti-terrorist unit, Public Security Section 9. He's charged with investigating the bizarre case of a malfunctioning gynoid - a hyper-realistic female robot designed for sexual companionship - who murdered her owner. Delving into the investigation, Batou and his partner, Togusa, encounter a world of thugs, hackers, and shady government bureaucrats and as well are thrown into the corporate criminal underworld. As the story begins to unravel, the truth becomes more shocking than they had dared imagine.
The Deluxe Double Disc Edition of Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence will be released by Manga Entertainment on February 27th 2006. The Deluxe Double Disc Edition will be priced at $19.99. A 3 disc compilation with the Special Edition of Ghost in the Shell will be available for $24.99
