it's only available to those who have a gmail account. all this is a chat program with a feature to talk over the internet with a microphone. not really worth downloading if you already have a chat program that also has this feature.
This particular section of the forums doesn't look too popular, however, I thought I might say that I have GMAIL, and there was a 'New Features' announcement stating that they have released a GoogleMessenger Program. I saw it available and ready for download, although I have yet to install it. Any advice / feedback on it...is it worthwhile?

It's a really base instant messanger. I like it because it has none of the annoying crap that AIM, Y!IM or ICQ has picked up over the years.
It's pretty much what ICQ used to be, what sounds there are are really easy to turn off, no popups, nice simple design, small resource usage, it's a fine instrument, imho.![]()
I think it's fantastic, all it does is let you send instant messages, which is all I really need, but the user base is still really limited. So weigh the options carefully.

Really? Wow. cool. I have a Gmail account so I WOULD be set if I decided to get Google! IM...
completely off topic but i would like to point out that there is an open source chat software out there that supports the AIM, YIM, ICQ and MSNM chat protocals as well as various others that is free like the others, guaranteed spyware free, consumes just about as much resources as solitare does (on linux systems, windows it takes a little bit more) and is totaly devoid of ads, popups, sound can be disabled at a click, and supports transparrent conversation logging (a must have for all you black-mailers out there)
another feature thati love is that it can set an alias for yout buddies. so instad of having (for example) [email protected] as a buddy you get to have "John Doe" as your buddy. makes it much easier to keep everyone straight.

Oh...I am not trying to 'pseudo mod' but please try not to be off topic. I don't want this thread shut down. Sorry, lol. But yeah. Are universal IM clients such as Trillian compatible with Google! IM? Or is it too early? And isn't Google IM in beta still, if I'm not mistaken?
Gaim can be set up to GTalk because it's just a Jabber client, in fact, the Help area of GTalk has a 'Setup for Gaim' section. I don't know if the same is true of Trillian.
