has anybody seen an anime set in the past

I dont know about you but i havent seen many anime movies/series set in the past say ww2 or sumthing like that. They are all in the future not that im complaining (cowboy bebop is a great futuristic anime series) but it would be a cool new look to see. Like a 1950 mafia series like the godfather that would just kick ass

To make a few recommendations quickly:

Grave of the Fireflies takes place in the WWII era of Japan.

Doomed Megalopolis takes place around the year 1908 in Japan

Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water takes place in the late 1890's

Rurouni Kenshin takes place in the 1870's

Ninja Scroll takes place in Feudal Japan (Prior to the 1860's)

    Grumble Grumble Grumble

If you REALLY want to see something upsetting and depressing, try the series 'Now and Then, Here and There'. It starts out as a bubbly Shounen type adventure, but then it quickly grows violent and very very dark. (I recommend this series to 'Berserk' fans, and any one else who thinks 'Violence is Cool'...) And since it's out in a very affordable collection set, there's no excuss not to try this series. Violence and darkness asides, it is a very very good series. I think the director Akitaro Daichi (Fruits Basket, Kodocha, Jubei-chan) did the series just to show to the world he could do something dark and very serious...
