I personally don't care anymore. Maybe that's the problem with obesity - People just simply don't care. LoL I'm contributing to the problem! It's the rebel in me - Anyway - Whatever people stuff in their mouths is none of my business. What people's BMI is none of my business. So there. Am I obese? Nope. So there you go. I'm more worried about fighting caner and other diseases that make people suffer.

Arrianna, just because someone can run around the block and not get tired dont per say mean their healthy. As for the BMI thing it may be a little off, but not by much. I think the ppl that made this are qualifyed and know what their talking about when they made this index. Maybe the fact that you know alot of ppl that would be classifyed by this as overweight or obese is evidence of this obesity epidemic?

Since the people I'm talking about definatly don't need to lose weight and the ones that do all have health problems... no.

I also know people who are actually obese. You can't miss it and you don't need a chart.

According to their chart I was overweight when I was 14 yrs old. My measurements were 36-26-36 and I showed signs of anorexia. (Eating 1 or 2 peices of toast as my entire meals for a day will do that.)

    No, I don't buy it.
Especially since it's a classic tactic by researchers in the US who want to increase their funding. They increase the parameter of those affected by what they are studying and then claim that the numbers are increasing. Well duh... If you drop the weight requirement of being overweight by 10-15 lbs (30lbs for obesity) of course there is going to be an increase in those who are considered overwieght.

I don't know a single healthcare worker or fitness specialist that would actually use their chart. But that's ok, they *disclaim* differences with a fine print saying that anyone with an increased musclemass might weigh more then average without being overweight.

Oh, noes! I'm a fat person and I'm going to eat all your nation's food and steal all your nation's healthcare moneys!

Yeah, the obesity debate is not something I get involved in. I'm one of the few with the genetic problems. I still go to the gym to try and counter the effects, but I'm stuck at an even 350 pounds. That goes to show that working out doesn't solve everything.

Re: Has Obesity plagued the US???

Just as Eriadd said for himself, working out doesn't solve everything.

Being born with certain health problems and complicated metabolisms cause nearly half the cause of obesity.

Do I mind obesity? ... yes and no. Yes, because it limits one to only a select amount of things. (Trust me, that's not the main reason, wait a little longer) No, because it does lengthen life span, lowers the temper, and might make one sit down and realize his non-physical abilities better.

The main reason why I don't like it... is to the few who have a pride to it.

For some, skinny people with pride is aggravating and depressing. But how would fat people with pride make it any better? It's like feminists to me... a feminist once accused me for keeping women down when I haven't done anything! In fact, I'm very polite to women and would rather that everyone has no boundaries! ... there are a few obese people that accuse the "okay" - to - "skinny" for hurting many of their feelings! ...not everyone of them have. And I appologize if they did! They were just raised to think that having extra weight was bad. And henceforth, think you're bad.

As for me, I was born with the metabolism that I could eat a large amount of food, but gain very little weight. I'm not skinny, I've got a little chub sticking out (only noticed when I'm naked... no peeking) .

However, people born with health problems and certain metabolisms could actually change their metabolisms at an early age. Either from having a strict diet, or excercising certain muscles and bones, or even daily pressure point massages.

Please accept my apology if I have offended anyone.

I used to be one of those people. Ticked off my friends who weren't... then I got sick.

It's not so simple...but then is it ever?

Re: Has Obesity plagued the US???

I had a friend who was morbidly obese, but then lost massive weight because he had severe blood loss. He was unfortunate in the sense that he lost a lot of blood, but very lucky that he didn't have to deal with his weight problem any longer ~ He's actually kept the weight off for about 2 1/2 years now!

Some people ARE born with slow metabolisms. Therefore, people like us gain a lot of weight. I was put on ADHD medications since when I was 6 years old, which interefered with my thyroid, the doctors figured. Weight gain has always been a problem for me, but I've learned to cope with it ~ I DON'T consider it a disease though. I DO consider it unfair that I didn't have a choice in the matter of myself taking these medications...therefore now I am stuck with this whole ordeal. Maybe in rare cases ... it can become a disease. But people can always overcome it by the foods they choose to eat and exercise.

My family runs the risk of diabetes mellitus, and there is a high chance that I could go blind at some point in my life if I don't change my current style of living. This is the scary part. Genes play a good role in it, but the individual can ALWAYS maintain control of their own weight.

For anyone interested in why people have become accustomed to such languid and indolent lifestyles ... try Googling up "Classical Conditioning" or Operant Conditioning". We have trained ourselves to live this way, in a sense.
