Question How big is anime in Japan

Ok I have a question for all of those members of AO who actually live in Japan and all who kind of know anime first hand and all. Is anime a really big thing? I mean we have some exchange kids from that area and all and they talk about it and they love it but is it pushed more than it is here? I dont know......I am just a person who likes to ask questions......
I hope that this thread doesn't get deleted it is a valid thread.

Re: How big is anime in Japan

Grumble Grumble Grumble

The reality is that in Japan, anime is no where as big as most people think it is. The most successful anime series in Japan are a few limited family hour prime time shows. (e.g. Full Metal Alchemist, Mobile Suit Gundam Seed, One Piece, Bleach, Naruto, etc) Most of the series that are popular in the US Market (e.g. Cowboy Bebop, Berserk, Chobits, Elfin Lied, Full Metal Panic, Samurai Champloo) are anime series that are originally shown in the post-midnight time slots in Japan. (the same time slots that get the cheesy paid advertisment programs and B-grade Movies in the US market)

And this is a Anime topic, so it belongs in the Anime/Manga Forum... Moving...
