I use a very basic stick figure program, Pivot, but I've never actually used a flash program before, I don't know where to download any good programs...

Flash is quite expensive and time-consuming
just to make really good ones

I would rather like having a free one that closely resembles flash so i can use the tutorials
(the free version crapped out on me it said I already used it for 30 days)

Yes, the GIMP can make animated GIFs.
