Which is more holy? The temple mound, the wailing wall, cavalry? Each reloigion thinks that their holy site is worth killing and dying for. Yes, Iran will nuke Israel if they can.

Thinking is the leading cause of death among the stupid.

Tho if u live in the uk and saw the ITV news report special on the life in Iran, well u would think that they are bein defencive, and that their nuclear stuff they have is DEFINATLY for powering Iran.

Its just Bush again wanting something that he doesnt have and using polotics as a way of getting what he wants.

I think David Icke said something about it too, if theres any Icke fans out there?

Then maybe you should watch a different news cast. The quote has nothing to do with Bush (honestly, you would think he ran the whole freaking world) it is a transcript of the President of Irans public speach to his own nation.

Okay... I'm here.... Personally, I think the statement is more of a sign of an inexperianced political leader who thought that a statement intended for 'internal' consumption to appease internal factions, would not be subject to 'external' consumption outside his country by the international press.

Politics in Iran is 'strange' where the extremist factions hold significant power, but at the same time, realize the vulnerabilities of their position. Despite their position against the country Israel, during the Iran/Iraq war, they hired Israeli technicians to repair their F-14 fighters, (and in turn, allowed Israel to emigrate a Jewish nomadic tribe from Iran).

In Iran, they been chanting 'Death to Israel' since the Shah was overthrown back in the late 70s. But the leadership that over threw the Shah are now getting old, grey, and conservative, and the chants of 'Death to Israel' and 'Death to the US' are growing old and tired and serve as a diversion away from serious internal problems such as high unemployment, poverty (despite the Iranian oil wealth) and inadequate goverment response for their earthquake disasters. Last year, just before the country elections, there were serious civil unrest among the Iranian college students, (the same conditions that existed before the Shah was overthrown) against the strict goverment contol and restriction. Conditions were bad enough for the religious hard-liners to allow the current president (who is considered a moderate by Iranian standards) to win the election and take office.

    I'll buy that.

Mind you that didn't keep his predicessor from saying essentially the same thing. Makes you wonder about the mindset of the Iranian gov. Just how are their leaders "elected" anyway?

    Interesting...

So does that mean that you don't believe that the President of Iran would ever follow through on his threats (promises?) in spite of his terrorist connections? Would he instead keep things "under the table" so to speak by simply continuing to unofficially support those who would?

Or is it possible that we'll be looking at a popular uprising in Iran's near future?

Re: "Israel must be wiped off the map"

1.Should Israel exist as a Jewish nation or was the land stolen?
2.Is this why Iran wants nuclear weapons?
3.Do you think Iran would actually try to nuke Isreal if they had them?

1.I think it should exist as any land as it is. If it's stolen, so what? Everything in life has been stolen. Don't complain about it being stolen and get it back.... of course, then they'll say you stole it from them. But that's your problem, not mine.

2.Possibly. Or they could just want it for another reason...

    3. ............. a little higher of a percentage than most, I'll tell you that.
