Oh yeah... Nothing. Like it or not, you do it too. Someday we'll have some super-cool Star Wars gadget that can blow up the planet, and we'll test this gadget, and then we'll all die. That's when the labels will be nomore.
Either that or everybody being exactly the same, in which case we might as well be dead, would get rid of the social labels. Doesn't seem worth it to me, but hey, rationality isn't everything.
I will await that day but untill then...Spleh...All I just wanted to know is what you thought of it(Even though that is a very cool but strangely cruel way to take care of the problem)

labeling in society is can sometimes be attributed to a lot of the problems we encounter daily... your appearence is mostly what people will label.. or i guess "classify" you.... so.. depending upon the label, they'll either accept you or reject you... from firsthand experience.. i can most definately say i am the complete opposite of what i look like.. but thats too bad for the label crazy people that cannot put such a thing as a person's appearence aside just to socialize with them.... what's even worse is when the labeling is done only to point out differences that might make one superior to the one being labeled.

I don't care much about labels
don't really care what people think about me
they can think whatever the hell they want
they can think of me as "the crazy quiet asian person who sits in the corner reading Johnny the Homicidal Maniac and wears black everyday"
or just "the lazy filipino person with the goatee"
yes... these sacks of meat and skin called "human" can label me whatever the hell they want
    me not care
me go and get headache from serial experiments Lain and draw the "question sleep" symbol everywhere

    ...indeed...
    I love my girlfriend.

I'm an otaku, or perhaps better known as loser. And it is clear why. No life.

    Re: Labels in Society

The social psychology explanation for the use of labels is for the mind to be able to quickly judge persons you just met or meet rarely, and be able to not use too much of your energy. If all persons had to throughly study each person they met, their brains would melt (metaphor ) and they wouldn't meet as many people.

Also, as a sociology student, I suggest you also take a look at what is called the Labelling Theory, if you're interested: http://www.soci.canterbury.ac.nz/res...labellin.shtml .

    Re: Labels in Society

I'm a hard one to label, I suppose. I have friends who consist of the popular jock crowd, but I don't consider myself one. I guess you could label my as the nerdy class clown, seeing as how I make most laugh.
