If it's your time going to Japan it's important to speak it just like u said.

Get Making Out in Japanese by Todd & Erika Geers. The best.

    Some random stuff :

futotta - gained weight [can be used as a statement or a question]
yaseta - lost weight [also can be used as statement or question]
sou mitai - seems so / looks like it is so
atarimae - of course [may be ended with DA, JA, DESHO or DARO]
ikenai - forbidden / unallowed / prohibited [variations in kansai-ben are IKAN and AKAN. there's also IKENEE (guys' version), and i've heard some people say IKENU]
narushii - narcissistic [as you may have guessed, this should be written in katakana]
sukebe - lewd [or HENTAI. this is something you might want to say to the CHIKAN you might meet on the train]
mochiron - definitely [variation as heard in Super GALS! : MOCHI]

    Re: Lesson in Japanese

It's good because it teaches you colloquial Japanese. And it gives you the literal meanings of some phrases. I think that's good for people who want to walk around and converse properly with Japanese people. It just feels weird being all polite all the time if you're not attending a business meeting.
