    Make Fire From Water

OMGWTFLOL. Wow. Just… Wow. This Aqueon fireplace by Heat & Glo actually uses regular water to create fire. Ordinary tap water (preferably distilled) is supplied to the fireplace through a pipe or tank, a 220 volt electrical service then separates the hydrogen and oxygen atoms through electrolysis, the Aqueon ignites the hydrogen, and ta-dah, fire! The oxygen is then added for color and brightness, while the rest is released into the room. It doesn’t require venting because it doesn’t produce any harmful emittents like carbon monoxide — just water vapor. And the whole thing is modeled to look like an artistic sculpture of a candle flame, which makes this thing all the more cooler… er… hotter.

No idea on how much this thing will cost, though apparently it’ll be out some time this summer. Now excuse us as we attempt to lift our jaws off the floor.

Whew, I want to make fire from water.

What are your thoughts on this?

    Grumble Grumble Grumble

220 volt system??? (same as what washers/dryers/forced air furnace heaters use...) In order to produce a usable amount of hydrogen to produce a usable flame, the unit must suck wattage like their no tomorrow. An electric room heater would use less power...

    not pointless at all
by making fire out of water you don't have to waste oil and wood, which we're runing out of
    but then you waste water
    i think it's a very good i dea anyway^^

Those of you who think it's a great idea are not aware of the huge amount of electricity required for the electrolysis of water.

Sure, your own personal consumption of fossil fuels may decrease, but the power plant down the road now has to burn a whole bunch more coal or oil so you can feel like you're doing something great for the environment.

The Aqueon fireplace doesn't solve any fossil fuel problems, it just shifts the responsibility to someone else.

yeah, hence why it's pointless, even if the idea is pretty damn cool.
