    manga suggestions for a newbie?

ok here's the deal. I know very little about anime and manga in general. the only anime I ever enjoyed was Blue Gender when it was on adult swim. besides that, I have seen Dragonball Z and Inuyasha, but didn't like either of them. I guess I like BG because it was a little more realistic and it reminded me a little of Resident Evil (I'm a big RE fan). so based on this, does anyone have any manga recommendations for me? I would like to read some and learn a little more about it.

I've read some of the manga of Hajime No Ippo. It's very realistic as it's a boxing manga and anime. It was pretty good too.
    I download anime, watch anime,
download more anime, watch more anime,
and download anime soundtracks because I have no life.

    Welcome Megamatt!

Blue Gender was pretty good, and the only other series I can think of right now that's like that is Neon Genesis Evangelion... but it it pretty hard to keep up with it sometimes, and I would only reccomend it to a genius or somebody who has watched alot of anime.

But we could help you better if you could give us some more details. Just what bits of Blue Gender did you like? The Mecha (huge robots)? The relationships between characters? Conspiricy? Space adventure? What?

Hmmm... He's not technically human, so it wouldn't really be like cannibalism...

Hajime no Ippo is very good, even if you don't like boxing in general, but it isn't licensed in the U.S. yet. It is also very long. I have up to volume 62 (there are about 70 volumes out in Japan right now).

I've never seen Blue Gender, so I don't really know what genre it is. One manga that I thought of was Battle Royale, though. I don't like the manga as much as the novel so far, but it has a suspenseful tone and is fairly realistic.

I would have recommended Fist of the Blue Sky, but the company that was bringing the manga out here went defunt so I doubt the rest of it will come out here. It has some of the best artwork I've seen in manga, and despite being about martial artists who do amazing things, it has a very realistic feel to it. Only 7 volumes came out here though.

thank you for the thoughtful replies. to clarify on my last post, I liked the more realistic characters of BG and the drama between the two main characters (I no longer remember anyone's name). The reason I loved the story was because it was not necessarily 'realistic', but somewhat believable, unlike the story of Dragonball Z. I usually like things with science fiction or conspiracy elements, which is why I always liked Resident Evil. Blue Gender also had great action scenes, which I liked.

If you're also looking for something fun and humorous, I recomend Love Hina-manga or anime series. Love hina the tv series is very funny and *awsome* -yall know what I mean... But the manga has the entirety of the story from beggining to end. Also the story is way different from that of it's tv series.

It's fun to watch and read though.
