You're definatly right there. I never said taekwondo was in anyway a "dangerous style", but when you have instructors training you to think you're invincible without the skills is harmful.
for me I am taking tae kwan do in college right now, and I gotta say that martial arts is not harmful, and as a matter of fact my instructor teaches us more of a defensive style instead of offense
He had already said that by practicing we will become more aware of our surroundings instead and have confidence in "protecting ourselves, our love ones, and to aid a fellow man" so I'm learning martial arts not to punch through walls and grabbing someones neck next door but to be aware of robbers and etc during this age of bad society
'Cause you give me something / That makes me scared, alright / This could be nothing / But I'm willing to give it a try / Please give me something
'Cause someday I might call you from my heart

Well its helpful if in the right hands of course, but then there are some people who use it to show off and/or kick someone's ass for no reason. Martial arts is just like everything else in this world, can be used for positive or negative outcomes, its all in the desires of the person who has the skill.
So you're back belt too.Originally Posted by Dark.

My spiritual master said, the only thing a "belt" is good for in martial arts is to hold your pants.. There's definitely humor in his statement, and yet there's truth.. Don't mind me^^
Let's not get into that here either.Originally Posted by SteamedRice
Why not? Egoism is a part of the danger in martial arts. People use it as a threat verbally "Oh I have a black belt...la la" I've heard it used to intimidate people.
As for what rice said, there are a few people that use that statement. Especially when you meet some of the "Black belts" out there.
Martial Art is a tool or expression.. Just like any weapon. In the right hands it won't be abused, but in the wrong ones it can be regardless of what had been 'taught' or shown...We have cooked cops...Mercenary soldiers and Martha Steward....
