I have a question for anyone who thinks they might be able to answer--
My boyfriend swears that Sweet's video for "Girlfriend" was the first mainstream glimpse of anime for most of the country --that this video is how most people were introduced to anime. I've never seen the video, so I don't know if it really is anime, but I think that a lot of people knew about anime before this (the video came out in 1991), what with Akira and the older stuff.
So my question is--does anyone think that this video was the gateway for a lot of people to anime, or do you think it was through anime like Akira that people became interested in it? I'm looking for serious answers here, so I'm gonna rely on you 'older' members out there who remember to early 90s'. And also, if anyone knows who did the animation to the video, that'd be great as well.
Thanks!
