I hate to admit it, but Windows Media Player is still the best archival solution for a PC. It archives and complies collections so well that it mistakenly indexed all of my Cakewalk Sonnar scratch tracks (thousands) when seaching for media to catalogue. That by no means is an endorsment. It still lacks control and easy skinning. It's clunky and does many unwanted things without prompting.
On the plus side, you can play anything on it so long as you have the right codecs. The only filetype that mine does not handle is ".mov" (stupid quicktime...) I bet there is a solution for that, but I hardly ever see .mov movies.
Like I posted in another thread, my vote goes to the free Zoom media player. Unobtrusive GUI, a gigantic list of user controls and options- yet easy to operate from the start, and better codec rendering than most other players. No dvd support, unless you buy the pro version though.
Shereaza. I'm downloading something right now.
I do not need a dl program, I know they have archiving and theatre functions but those aren't very high quality.Originally Posted by Kiri79
Ok, I'll specify.
I'm looking for a program that makes an easy to navigate archive of all my video and music files.
I DO NOT need a player.
So when I want to play the files it just plays it in the media player of my choice.
P.S. I know it's a double post but editing won't bump this thread.
