Naruto - Why do you think Itachi murdered his whole clan, apart from Sasuke?

i'm not really sure, but i'd say it's just 'cause he's psycho and power hungry...who knows...:lurk:

like InnerH. said, to test his strength and his mangekyo sharingan, sasuke is too pitiful to die, and besides he probably hated them anyways....Bleh...

It's simple, it's because the writers needed a definitive bad guy... so they made Itachi do it.

He killed his entire clan but sasuke to master a technique that requires the souls of the one that you love, since he did not like sasuke he did not have to kill him.......

actually...
he obtained the Mangekyō by killing his best friend Shisui
(the only way to activate the Mangekyō is to kill your best friend)
he wiped out his entire clan just for the hell of it
just to see what he was capable of
he spared Sasuke out of pity and also out of curiousity
he wanted to see if Sasuke could achieve the Mangekyō Sharingan too
just to make things interesting

No he killed of his clan because they where getting close to the truth about him killing Shisui, and to see how powerfull he is.

actually he did it because he hated his family and he wanted to have all their secrets wich his family didn't want him to know.....

Ok, ok. The thread seemed to start out on a good note, but it seems to have degraded. It just bothers me when people start telling other people that they are wrong and then "telling" them what is "correct".

Innerhell is correct, from what I remember of those long past episodes. Why are we even debating this subject when we are told the reasons?

If that was the case, why bother killing them. Its not like they could do anything to him. I mean he killed them all. Minus the runt of course.
