I believe its because of raps influence in pop-culture today, according to the latest statics, rap/hip hop is the number one genre of music that is being listened to. So I think bands are trying to reinvent the rock genre in order to get people back into listening into rock more now. They are realizing that rock is starting to become old now and they want to give it a fresh kick in the ass.
