Well I guess its no different than naming your car which I have done. Her name is Bess and shes a badass. Best car in the world in my opinion, shes had her ups and downs but she always seems to come out on top and be there when I need her so if you can live with my car's name then I have no prob with others naming their computers or whatever. Its not weird I dont think, you'd be surprised how many people do stuff like that. It shows you car about something and have a relationship with it even though it isnt an animate object. Trust me there are stranger things out there.

It's not entirely normal, yet it's not entierly weird either.
My computer is called Sei-chan. Named after Seishirou from X, my computer used to be an evil bastard of a thing that always crashed and played with my head by do strange things that made me freak out and think my hard drive was crashing... hence that's why I named my computer that

But I'm going to be overhauling my entire system soon, with new everything expect for the harddrive and montior. So I don't think it'll be called Sei-chan anymore. I don't know if I'll rename it, since it would really be the same Sei-chan anymore... if you know what I mean.

    Main comp: Sakaki
    Laptop: Shinobu
    Server: Sakura
    PDA: Tsubasa
    PS2: Sasami
    Car: Rakka
Car Mascot (small little animal on dash): Rex (that is what the tag said.)

I named my stuff after anime charactures I like. And some of the names suit the items (characturistics are the same for the item as the char)

Thanks everyone (wow, lots of replies).

Well, I guess it's normal then (or else most of you have gone mad). I don't know though, it still seems kinda wierd to me. Probably it's just because i've never really thought of it until recently.

As far as networking goes, I don't see it as being any different to simply giving your computer a number rather than a name. When you only have one or two computers, I guess you could name them for good luck or something...

... It just really gets me when people reffer to computers as actual people. e.g. 'Poor Micom isn't feeling well today.' It just get's confusing (as you can all see).

Hmmm... He's not technically human, so it wouldn't really be like cannibalism...

Numbers don't work as well if you might take it from one network to another. There are plenty of #"30"'s out there but how many computers are named "Ian".
