know1 - Thanks for speaking your opinion... I only use emoticons because I can... But at least I know how to read and comprehend, and I can understand another person's opinion. In no way was I offended by your words... I respect them.

And in thinking about this topic - Americans truly are fat and lazy. From personal experience: I've always been bigger... I'm not a size 0. I never will be. But I wasn't that big either. But, I dwelled in self-pity for many a long year. Until one day I realized that I need to stop coming up with excuses and get healthy. So I worked just a little harder, changed my lifestyle, and lost 35 pounds in little over a month. It's not because of cosmetics... I could give a rat's ass what anyone thinks of me (I always said if they don't lke the way I look, they can gouge their eyes out LoL). Before this, I never wanted to work harder to lose weight. I was lazy!!!!!

Now I have evergy... I actually want to wake up in the morning (for the most part...) I keep up and am sometimes ahead in martial arts class. Plus, I just feel better overall. Americans that are overweight should empower themselves, and not worry about others. It's about you, and where you want to be. That's the way I look at it.

So I lost all that weight (and more is dropping off all the time). It's a good thing... But none of my clothes fit anymore

I bring my own lunch or just don't eat at school...it's just disgusting how people (the gov't mostly, since it's spending most of the money on a war with no point.) don't look at what their kids are going to be eating...

Thanks for not hating. The nature of debate can cause the friction that I seemed to have brought to this thread, but I never thought people would take my words so personally. I probably would have kept my mouth shut, but to paraphase John Updike: "Once you begin a gesture, it's fatal not to follow through with it."

This is more like it. I say: I hate emoticons and that they ruined the internet. You acknowledge my thought, but post that you use them because you can. That's confucian logic- simplistic and genius in a way that makes rebuttal all but impossible.

It's ok some people just hate being wrong...it's good you're speaking your mind though....

    Re: Obesity

as for school lunches, I am of the opinion that schools shouldn't have to regulate every diatery aspect of a person's health, like soda's and such, though I do agree that schools should at least provide a balanced meal, but also if they make money through pizza sales and stuff, then thats their own choice as a school. Parents need to take responsibility for their children's health by instilling good nutrition, on the subject of obesity, the test is flawed I will give you that, but most reasons why people are obsese is because of psychological problems, maybe a person eats to feel better and cannot stop, good nutrition starts at home and thats where it should be nurtured and that is not happening, mostly because we live in a society of rushness, parents are rushed and instead of providing a good meal, they give their kid junk as a hurry meal, this reinforces the notion that its ok to eat bad. It all starts in the home.

also, I do know a guy who is very overweight, he is in our schools anime club, i treat him with respect, but there is something to be said for being overweight though, he cannot walk up ramps nor down them, he cannot walk a mile because he needs to stop and catch his breath and his weight has become a problem with chairs because they cannot hold his weight. Being in his shoes, I would do something about it, because they way he acts, it seems he will have serious medical problems down the line; what I am saying is that though we may have a labeling problem being plus sized does have its risks.

I agree. Isn't it hypocritical that there are posters on the schools cafeterias saying to eat healthy meanwhile they're the ones that are serving kids the greasy food? I also agree as to how parents prefer to feed their kids fast foods than as to preparing them a healthy mean.....I don't blame some parents who work and don't really have a lot of time to spare but I mean the least they could do is to fix them something that is not too greasy or too plain..

Then argue it instead of wasting our time by claiming that anyone who doesn't agree with you is attacking you. Such tactics only make your position appear weak and yourself inciteful.

I already redescribed who I was talking about to technically healthy people, so lay off.
Better... but you don't prove a thing. A Database on height, weight, age, sex, and BMI% only proves the height, weight, age, sex, and BMI%. It proves nothing about how much they are actually eating. You assume that if someone is technically healthy and has gained weight then they are in your words "in denial" but you have yet to provide any proof of such.

During the course of this thread four reasons have been mentioned; genetics, health, over eating, and undereating. You seem willing to acknowledge health but unwilling to admit to any other reason then overeating. This is what is at the root of the dissagreement not any other statement you may have made.

Mind you, you did state your veiw quite clearly earlier on page three but I will at least grant that you deleated it. Not the part about gunpoint and situps. The part about "I just hate the site of morbidly obese people." You claimed to be honest at that point about your feelings. Has that changed? If it has not your veiw on why people are overweight just might be considered biased.

I think that DENIAL is right...like for example this lady sued her doctor because he told her that she was fat...how stupid is that?
