    Old School Anime

I am an avid fan of anime from the 70's 80's and 90's so I want to know if anyone knows any old school anime. I have seen some anime such as Fist of the North Star, Speed Racer, Street fighter V, Akira, Robotech, and Lupin the 3rd. I don't know that many anime from back then since I didn't get into anime recently in about 1995(well not that recently). I think the older, more "experienced" members would know more about some of the older anime titles. Please let me know some old, good ones out there.

I don't know if you like Gundam or not, but I think MS Gundam and Zeta Gundam have held up well over time.

You've probably already seen stuff like Vampire Hunter D, but I always liked that...I remember watching it around the time I watched Akira. I also remember watching stuff like Bubblegum Crisis and Gunbuster, which are very good OVA series.

I enjoyed Gundam wing to an extent, but all of the other gundams just bored me to no end. Yes, I have seen vampire hunter D and Bubblegum crisis, but I heard there was an older version of BG or a side story from back then. Maybe that's what you are talking about and not the one I'm thinking of called BG crisis 2040. I never heard of Gunbuster, I'll check it out.

Yeah, Bubblegum Crisis 2040 (1998) was newer and 26 episodes long. The original Bubblegum Crisis (1987) was an 8 episode OVA series, and a lot more "old school" - and kind of like Blade Runner. Gunbuster is a little newer than that (1989), but I personally think it is Hideki Anno's (Nadia, Neon Genesis Evangelion) best work. There is a new Gunbuster OVA series that just started coming out this year, but it doesn't really have much to do with the old one (I find it to be more like FLCL).

although the newer bubblegum crisis isn't in the "oldies" I still think it's better in terms of storyline, but the old one had better looking armors etc.

how about kimagure orange road?? i dont know how old that is though

Kimagure Orange Road TV series started in 1987, I believe.

I also always recommend Yasuhiro Imagawa's Giant Robo to people. It's a 7 episode OVA series that went from 1992 to 1998, and is not a mecha series, despite the name. Though it is newer than most series listed here, it has a retro look (but with great animation) and uses a lot of old fan favorites from early Yokoyama works.

Another 1990s work that I still find very good is the original JoJo's Bizarre Adventure OVAs (1993) - not the 2000 OVA series, which I liked, but just weren't as good. You'd probably like JoJo's since you listed Fist of the Northstar. It has some of the most clever battle scenes I've seen in an anime.

Akira and the old Gundam series are about all I have watched, that can be considered old school. Akira in my opinion is a piece of art, for the way it was created, it is the best animation of its kind. And the storyline is personally one of my favorites.
