    Parental Advisary Notices

If you were watching a show, or buying a cd, do you or your parents actually pay attention to the parental advisary notices? An example that comes to mine is at the beggining of Adult Swim. When the notice comes up, do you actually go like... "hey! I'm not over 14 so I guess I can't watch this stuff." I can't. What do you think of the Parental Advisary Notices?

As far a regular TV, mivies, and gamesgo, no one in my family pays any attention. My dad looks at the ratings on cd's and my mom asked me if I was watching porn when she walked in on the adultswim rating.

    Re: Parental Advisary Notices

Everything i'm about to relay is straight from the horses mouth. About two years ago I had a chat online with Chris Randall, lead singer of the rock band Sister Machine Gun (not that i'm braging but hey) and he told me that when it comes to parental advisory.... it's really up to the record company if concering musical releases, for two main reasons. 1) Most of the time record label executives are of the opinon that the "advisory" sticker actually helps sales and make the record a bit more desirable. 2) Using the same "desirable" technique i listed above they'll oftenly slap the sticker on lesser known artists to grab attention. So if you've ever bought an album of any type that had explicit content but no sticker it's most likely that the execs aren't focusing to sell as much as other records. As for my take on them....i do beleive that they serve a purpose to protect younger or more sensetive ears. But knowing what they're really used for kind of conflicts with my feelings for it as well....

    Yes. Very much.

What's more I've taught my kid the ratings so if he wants to know why I won't let him watch, listen, or play something I just tell him the rating and the conversaton is over. It makes my job as a parent much easier.

Much like rated "R" movies. Some films I actually never saw because they were PG-13, I had assumed they wouldn't appeal to me as much as something deemed suitable for an older audience. Record companies do the same. "Parential advisory" is much of a rating system which doesn't really "warn" of aggressive language, it flaunts it. Who is going to buy a rap cd that uses kind language? Will Smith is known as a movie star, DMX is known as a rapper, even though they each have done both. This is based on the success of each in both genres. And their success may be due to the fact that Will doesn't curse like DMX does.

Knowing todays parents(Excluding Arrianna ) dont probably pay attention or care. So i dont think it does much good. I think its just a legal thing so they wont get sued by some emo soccer mom.

Oh trust me, some care. I'm only 18, so I've heard about other people's parents a lot. Either they don't care, just keep an eye on them, or they're like hawks with thier kids. I think for some parents the power goes to thier head. I have a lot of friends that are Apastolic Christians, which is a strict religion. Those households ussually don't even have TV's. Anything rated higher than PG seems to be out of the question. trust me, I have to deal with the ranting of friends every day.

My parents are always look at the ratings but they don't say anything about me watching it. That's what happens when your 18.
