--To the Moon--

A trail that once led the way,
swallowed completely;
it's difficult to move
when no moon casts
its whispered shadows.
A light, not yet tread upon
of his own self indulgent;
a mask of faltered lies
stains his parched cheeks.
It fades away so quickly,
an illusion; mirage not seen
where a secret's burning wishes;
a plea's gulty cry,
are lost within confines of remorse.
So he sang to the moon
the only words he knew,
singing lilting truths; remembering
iniquities of archaic realms.

The mask begins to crumble;
the trail peeks its way through;
blown away, the lies
where soft rays of light shine down.
And that of which he took;
a brand new beginning, he receives,
from the air he lives and breathes,
easing his way from the past.

Nothing's left, but memories.
