Yeah, that's what the separation of church and government is supposed to be about. We can't stop it from affecting his decisions, though. He just can't say "Go to Catholic Mass" or anything to the citizens and stuff.

Actually thats a great idea, but then again, what if the prez hates all religions, or doesn't respect them????

i think we should have an non religious president (well primeminister for me) as that means he can't bring god into a war, and so forth, and he has the ability to make non biased desicions about religious.. stuff ( for want of a better word)

I'm sure that George Washington (Episcopalian), John Adams (Unitarian), Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison (Episcopalian) would find your ideas interesting. You know, the first 4 Presidents of the USA, members of the Continental Congress and the Constitutional Convention that wrote the Constitution. A constitution that includes:
Clause 3: The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.
Or how about from the Bill of Rights:
    Article [I.]

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Article 1, the first freedom guaranteed under peoples rights. Of course the President needs to be impartial, impartiality is part of the law, but requiring him to not be religious would be considered a religious Test and unconstitutional as well as opposing the ideals of the founders of the US.

PS. I'm going to say this once again. The seperation of curch and state is a modern myth propagated by the media and polititions who use it for personal gain. The only two statements on religion in the Constitution are those listed above. Specifically that the Federal government a. cannot prevent someone from holding office based on religion, b. may not establish a federally sponsored religion, and c. may not make laws that prevent somone from practicing their religion. That's it. No more, no less.

You'll have to ask someone from the UK about their laws.

hmm nice point, and on reveiwing the subject, we should be against someone because of their religion, but i think what should be done is this. we create a council instead of one president and on this council we have a representitve of each religion. though i guess that wouldn't work due to them being unable to come to a decision
