Religion leds people to be close minded (not saying all religous people are close minded, just saying it can led to being close minded), and have a certain way. So no, I believe the President should be flexible to the needs of the people, and keep and open mind. As should the rest of the government.

interesting topic...but one thing stood out to me.

It's hard to find a person who has no judgements for or against any religion...let alone get that person to lead the country. To me, what makes a person judgemental is not only the religious belief that they have, it lies more deeply within the beliefs that they've built up ever since they were a kid. It doesn't matter if you're religious or not, you're gonna be judgemental. No matter WHO you are. You can have no religious affiliation and still be extremely judgemental (perhaps towards those who DO have religious affliations).

What makes good presidential or leader material is someone who can weigh their own beliefs and desires with those of all the people they are leading and come up with decisions that way. Someone who actively looks for the whole picture and is not afraid to be criticized or be wrong. Someone who understands that not everyone will be 100% happy with their decisions but makes them anyway, for the best of everyone's interests. What religious affliation a person has, has very little to do with any of that.

I definitly agree. Seperation was church and state was made for a reason, so we could objectivly look at the issues at hand. Not that it seems to happen much anymore. I think it's fine to be religious and in power as long as you don't let that effect your decisions.

For a president being impartial to any religion at all would be no different from a president witha religion in my eyes. The reason a president gets elected is because of his/her character, what people think of him/her. Religion helps to build a kind of character, but not having a religion shouldn't affect that either. Just because an someone doesn't believe in a God, doesn't mean his/her opinion is any more important/significant than a person with a religion. It is all about the president's character and his/her ability to move people into thinking what they plan for the country is the best road to prosperity.

Well as of today, yes bush bases the whole abortion thing on religion, where there should be no religion involved. I think that religion is a daily act for the president and that there should be a non-religious president. Of course this would not go over well with the Catholics....

Yep, have to agree with you there. Although I am not so religious myself, but I know plenty of people that are. It would not go to have a non religious president. Besides, only 2% of the world is agnostic. People want someone they can relate 2, and an agnostic president wouldn't help matters much.
