Quite simply, yes, about a year ago our host dropped the ball and we lost everything. On October 29th we reopened with a fresh start, nothing from the previous version of AO came over.
This is probably very old news.....
But was the database reset sometime in the past year?
See about a year ago I downloaded a bunch of pictures. And really haven't been back sense... But I was showing a friend of mine some of my collection of pictures and he asked where I got them. I told him here.
But after coming here we can't seem to find any of the pictures I have saved.... and all the numbers (how I saved the pictures) don't match any of the numbers of the pictures here.

Ouch, sorry to hear it.
That must have been terriable to lose all that hard work. (hope you sued for a lot)
Was there ever an attempt to try recollect all the pictures and maybe set up a archive?I have 815 of them if they're of any use.....
Well, a lot of the users who created those images weren't around any longer and without proper permission from them we can't post their work, as according to our own rules, so we just let everyone back in and they could repost their works to our gallery along with everyone elses new stuff.
We've got no plans to bring back any of the old images (even though we don't even have 'em) or throw back up what we have, since we just don't have permission and there were way too many to collect from various people anyway.
So we just started over again, no real big deal.
If they gave you permission the first time... why would you lose permission when the servers went down?
It seems like a big deal to me... I mean there was ALOT of work on the old site. But I guess it's your call. I'll just treasure the ones I have knowing that they're just that much more rare
