They seem to get mad when white people use the word yet they use it about as much as an average person would say "hello" or "the". It's a very nasty derogatory word that white man used to call them. And now a days they say they are upset by being called the word yet they go around and use it like it's meaningless. It's like they know the history but they don't seem to care unless it's a white person who uses it, and then all of a sudden it's offensive. I don't buy it. I don't see Jewish people going around calling them selves "Kikes" , or Japanese people calling themselves "Japs". I know this is off topic, but I just wonder why. It just seems like they have taken all meaning from the word and get mad at other people who use it just as an excuse to get mad.

![]() ![]() | Re: Is rap music degrating to women? OH god! When rappers use cuss words in their songs, people always seemed shocked. You gotta look behind the word and actually find out why they wrote the song-not focus on one word. As for the nigga word, here is my perspective: Black people use the word nigger because I think they are trying to turn a bad word good. For us its like when you approach someone and go like, "wassup my nigga." Were not insulting them-far from it. Its like were saying, your black, and we know the hurt and pain that your ancestors felt from being slaves. We understand, and from that connection, you my nigga. But the reason why we get so insulted when white people say it, is because we feel like they don't know the hurt and the pain we felt, and by trying to say it like we say it, we feel kind of insulted. Only one of the black stereotypes that really get on my nerves. I should move this to a different thread.

![]() ![]() | Re: Is rap music degrating to women? I think rap and hip hop in general has an identity crisis at hand, I don't like rap or hip hop manly because of the above mentioned by everyone in here, but in the early 90's when rap started to come into the mainstream, rappers were rapping about what they saw and what happened to them during their lives living in the ghetto's and the back-alleys, in the past, rap was more about what they saw than anything else, and in the ghetto, women were sometimes used as hookers, also cop-hating was brought out because of the way cops treated the black neighborhood in the city-Remember the Los Angeles riots; that type of rap is ok, because it represents the life that people have to live, however as rap became more mainstream I think wealth and money became a big asset and so money is what made the genre go around-Remember i think it was Dr. Dre and the record executive of Murder Inc. So rap is evolving into nothing more than just the same themes with just different beats, the degredation of women is nothing new, but it is going out of hand because it portrays every woman now as a hoe and a slut. Also, its portraying a lifestyle that a person would enjoy having, especially a man. As far as the use of the word nigga is concerned, I understand the point of black people using it as a word to which all black people can understand each other, but in today's world it has become rapant in use. To me it seems that almost every sentence has to have the word nigga in it. It's almost as if a black person cannot get their point across unless the other person can fully understand it. My opinion is that if black people can call each other nigga, then everyone should be able to do the same. It pisses me off that in regular speech black people can selectively cut out a person simply by using nigga because if a white person uses it, they get offended. Since this is the case, then black people need to stop using the word cracker for a white person because that is a degrading word for a white person. I am of the opinion that if you treat me with respect, then you shall have respect, but if a black person calls me a cracker, then I have every right to call them a nigga. Also, its very interesting how many of us on AO feel this way, even considering that Rap is the #1 genre that is being listened to by consumers.
