The women who dance in the music video's are dancers and what they do is their profession. It's pretty much their job to dance how their asked and yeah they do it for money because it's their jobs. They are a small majority of women and they do not represent all women. And even though they agree to degrade themselves doesn't give anyone the right to assume that women can be freely degraded because of a select few. That is like saying "She deserved to be raped because she whore a skirt and a tank top."
I see you kind of took that the wrong way. I understand the jobs of dancers in some videos. And I also understand women aren't freely degraded. But then there are those other videos where liquor is poured on women, they are treated badly, washing cars in bikinis, or they are stereotyped. This is the reason I asked what level of degrading, because some don't see these situations as degrading and they merely see them as a normal occurence.

I mean, would you just sit there and let degrading words be told to you and do nothing about it, or would you stand up and degrade them back?

This might be considered a type of an excuse, but let me add this. Would you let meaningless degrading words affect you? Do you really have to care what they say? Or would you just let them do what they do and you do what you do and leave it at that?
I'm not sure I understand your question.

If you mean would I swear back at someone who swore at me and called me those things then no, I haven't. (Yes, past tense. I have experience in this.) Why would my acting like the scum that just insulted me make me anything but scum as well.

If your asking would I do nothing then that has depended entirely on the situation.

Why do you think that the only response to being degraded is to degrade them back?

I wasn't trying to point that out. I just gave you a bunch of theoretical situations and I was curious to see how you would respond. I was trying to find out how bad does it affect you, that if someone says a degrading word in their song, how much offense do you take to it. I'm saying how most people don't take note to these lyrics and merely treat them as a song, because in the end, that's all it is, a song. I had listened to a 50 cent song and he was calling other rappers B****es and ho a$$ niggas. What I'm trying to say is that why should I care what he calls other people if it doesn't affect me in general. He isn't directly saying my name. I'm just listening to a good song with a nice rythm to it that happens to be directed at other rappers. I believe ryke12 said this before

Also Arianna, I want to know which artist(s) did you happen to listen to when these words were said. Could you provide the lyrics if possible?

I see you're talking in terms of being desensitized. As in women who wear bikini's washing cars are now seen as the norm. Yes, there are certain things that don't cause people to gasp and call it degrading now a days. The movie 'Bring It On' for example has a part where the cheerleaders are dancing around in bikini's washing cars. I don't see that as degrading, it's no worse than showing guys dancing around with out shirts on.

What I do see as degrading is half naked girls in rap video's gyrating their hips into guys crotches and wiggling their naked butts at the camera while the rappers call them hoes and sluts. That is degrading and the women are just as bad as the rappers, or more so the person who made the video.

Also it is degrading to hear rap lyrics that put women in such light as making them seem like sluts or hoes or someone who should bow down to men.

I agree with you, but I just can't seem to disagree with an opinion, because you can't really disagree with an opinion. I hate to stand up for those who are degrading(I dislike it as much as you), but they are actually entitled to their own opinions and if they want to express it they can do so freely(1st amendment).

Touche.

But then if rappers are allowed to call women by names that degrade them that stand for everything women are trying change like 'bitch', 'hoe', 'whore', and 'slut' then one can assume that songs can be made about them that degrade them and they can't get upset by it. Like for instance do you really think a rapper is going to sit back and let a white person sing a song about "niggers" or "homies" in a degrading light? I think they are going to be pretty upset. But as far as it goes it's fair game they are entitled to their own opinions as well.
