I'll give you some examples. The type of words used. You have to realize that the slang in each area is different(which is one of the main differences). The way rappers speak, what type of accent they have is another example. The southern artists will obviously have a southern accent. Another big factor is what they rap about. If you happen to listen to the lyrics being said, then most southern artists have the tendency to rap about money. Most east side artists have the tendency to rap about where they live, "their hood". That's not always the case, but it is that way most of the time. I could go on but I think this is enough information to realize how different each rap artist can be.

Also, you say "(not by choice)", indicating that somehow you think it isn't acceptable in society to hear to rap music. Like arrianna said, words have meanings. You said "whenever I hear" and from that a person should tell that you don't "listen" to rap music but you do "hear" it. There's a big difference between listen and hear when used a certain way so there's no need to actually say "(not by choice)" because the word "hear" already indicates that.

No i mean I wouldn't listen to rap music by my choosing. I only hear it when a loud car passes by, in a movie, or sometime when my friend has it on.

You must have misread my post because I've said exactly that, but using a few different words. You don't have to listen to rap music. No one does. Everyone has their own favorite genre of music to listen to.

Re: Is rap music degrating to women?

I really find it offensive because what they're doing is just mainly saying women are whores....they portray women as sluts....I don't really like it...then Stupid America goes and actually thinks that women will be like that....C'mon girls it's not a man's world anymore.....show some dignity....

Re: Is rap music degrating to women?

I hate it when i want to watch a decent video say Evanesense or foo figthers and by accident you get some man drawling over a female who is not wearing much just a bikini and something to go over the thighs. What they are wearing they are almost falling out of, so they might as well be a glamour model with that attitude. I mean most rap music videos are about just using women, aren't we supposed to be in age where there is equal rights. rapping is just reminding me of how powerful and dominating some men want to be!
I hate rap because you hear people listening to it for 5 miles away because they deaf i mean come on rapping is crap, personally.

I do agree with kastelic4444 it does sound the same!!!!

I dont even consider it music. Its all just talking with attitude, and a beat in the backround. If the rappers had to sing a melody, could they?? NO!!

Re: Is rap music degrating to women?

most of the rap songs i hear are degrading, i don't have to watch the video's, and like others have siad their not just degrading to women but lots of minoritys and races and the like. personally i don't mind the style, i wouldn't chose to listen to it but i don't mind it, but the lyrics to most of them are degrading violent and just not cricket.

Hmmm... you didn't read my posts, did you? I clearly outlined one of the things that makes rappers in a completely different form of music from the more conventional genres like rock.

Rappers specialize in creating lyrics on the spot, without sitting down and planning it out. Sure, some actually do sit down and plan it out, but one of the abilities of a rapper is to come up with semi-coherent lyrics at the drop of a hat.

One of the more interesting songs on Kanye's CD "College Dropout" is the last one, which is some 7-10 minute song where he's basically free-talking the entire time. Thing is, it's not too bad to listen to. Another thing is that in his little "freetalk" song, he mentions Jay-Z's ability to go into a studio, hear a beat, then start spitting lyrics within minutes.

Every genre has it's own little "specialty", and blaming rap for not doing exactly the OPPOSITE of what it's known for is like blaming rock for not having full-blown orchestras and conductors.
