Yeah, I read it. The fact that you "used" to like rap has no bearing on it now. You have made it clear that you do NOT like rap nowadays.

I DO agree. Rap is perfectly fine nowadays, except for the fact that it is saturated to the max with BS, which is one of my arguments for rap dying out.

Apparently most rap artists care about "their" future. By "their" I mean the individual, NOT society as a whole. But this is not really a discussion about their moral values, it's how they affect OTHERS values.

So, I'm defending the good nature of rap which has become covered by mountains of crap. I refuse to defend the random BS which is commonly preferred by radio and TV. No, on the other hand look towards Talib, and Kanye (to a lesser extent).

Although, just to add fuel to the fire, rap is probably the most popular form of mysogynism right now, BUT there are a few other ideas on that. Also, has anyone realized that there is (or at least was) an argument that Shakespeare was mysogynist? One of the most popular authors, and he was sending a bad message to women constantly. Note: a few CHOICE characters are decidedly pro-feminine, but those are relatively rare.

Yes, I'm aware that people also think Shakespeare is more than one person...

Re: Is rap music degrating to women?

I'll have to agree that they do choose whether or not they want to be shown in this light, which isn't degrading to females as a whole, but more of just them.

Re: Is rap music degrating to women?

I am not in denial. I love rap and hip hop and I will always support it. Rap in general is not degrating, just some certain rappers that make it sound that way. I'm just gonna give one out as example:
50cent
Most people say that his music is very degrating, but just look at his song, Hate it or Love it with the Game. Now that was far from degrating.

Tupac was a great MC, it is a shame that he died, he was one of the rappers that wasn't degrading, and if ya think he is then I'll tell ya this "Tupac's rhymes came frm the ghetto, how many times did he have police problems? Tell me, did u c Tupac Resurection? Take a look at it, it shows how he was raised, and how life was a real b!tch!

EXCACTLY! Tupac's words were not degrating to women or race. Here is a quote from one of his songs, Cause I Had To:
"I give a **** about your language or complection, you got love from the niggaz in my section."
And also the song keep ya head up isn't degrating. You think were in denial, but were just sticking up for what we believe in with the facts.

Re: Is rap music degrating to women?

Well it looks pretty clear that we are all not gonna agree on this issue. Both sides have valid arguments, but people think and react to things differently.

(Just me commenting on your guys comments)

Very interesting and complex thread topic btw. It'd be a fun topic to analyze in class.

Ok guys, I checked out the lyrics for both 50cent and Tupac. I'll grant you Tupac was cleaner but between the two I still found songs strewn with "nigger", "hoe", "nympho", "slut", and "b-tches". So tell me, are the songs you mentioned exceptions or the rule?

Tupac wasn't BAD, cuz 50 got his songs, and D12, I like them, but when I heard the song on D12 world B!tch, I was like wtf? she is a woman, she shouldn't be treated like that, but that is the only song I felt somethin, Tupac though was cleaner, but he still made his beef songs, every rapper gotta have beef
