Try movies form Studio Ghibli. like totoro, Laputa... then Macross series.
By classic, I dont mean old. What are some titles you feel are "required viewing" for anime fans? I've just gotten into it a few months ago, and thanks to BT (and massive purchasing) I've already seen quite a bit, but now it's time check out the more essential ones. So help me out. I've seen the many of the ghibli movies (Including nausicaa) slayers, Escaflowne, sailormoon, Eva (ones I feel are required viewing) What else should I check out?
I got a feeling someone's gonna say Gundam...

Well, maybe you can pick up Cowboy Bebop (a must see for every animefan), Trigun, Kenshin (although the manga is better than the anime), Noir and one more recent title would be Fullmetal Alchemist. Obviously there are many more, but this is a start right?

Noir was great, but too much filler. It could've been a 13 episode series, and made a bigger impact. But there were too many "hits of the day" episodes which slowed the momentum of the story down.
And Fullmetal Alchemist is still my favorite anime series of all time, so far.
Essential classics, eh? Here is a small list in no particular order...
Bubblegum Crisis (the original OAVs, not the 2040 TV series)
Macross TV series(not Robotech, although that may also be considered classic by some)
Macross: Do You Remember Love?
Here is Greenwood
Maisson Ikkoku
Ranma (the first season at least)
Urusai Yatsura
Gundam (had to say it, although I would limit the list to Z Gundam, ZZ Gundam, and Gundam 0083)
Bastard
Nadia
Golden Boy
Dirty Pair (again, the original OAVs and TV series, not Dirty Pair Flash)
Fist of the North Star
Five Star Stories
Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro
Only Yesterday
Whisper of the Heart
I Can Hear the Sea
Grave of the Fireflies
And of course, just about every Ghibli movie...
Just because it is older, and therefore a "classic" in my eyes, check out Irresponsbile Captain Tylor! It's awesome!
