Chizu... The Pros and Cons of Religion??? Can you be a little more specific... What exactly is to be debated here??? The general concept of Religion? The cultural/social effects of Religion? The Historical inpact of Religion? The economic impact of Religion? You should state 'Your Opinion' to start off the debate if your posting in the Opinions and Debate Forum...

Agree. Without topic, We can debate. Even if you say that we can speak freelly of something it's like starting a new thread with comment by ourself...

Considering how a discussion of religion can get ugly quickly, a quick rules reminder is in order:

Is this just to say what we hate about the other side, and love about our own? Of course we're not going to give pro's about our "opposing" views!!! But I'll try.

Religion Pro: It gives you somthing to look forward to after you die. What a sad life it would be if you just ceased to exist. Why live?

Religion Con: It does produce anger and hostility between the non-religious and the other religous against whatever you belive in. [if any]

Is that what you're looking for? [more like a general subject-not debate ]

Pro: Encourages and scares people into doing the right thing. Means of societal control.
Con: Encourages intolerance and sometimes hatred, despite the fact that most major religions seem to value the same core concepts.

My only comment is to quote a friend when someone asked her what if she was wrong. She told him:

"The way I see it I'm the one playing it safe. If I'm wrong and God doesn't exist when I die it won't matter. But if I'm right and God does exist, then when you die you're the one in trouble."

I thought it put an interesting spin on things.

I know God will condemn me for this haha, but hey that's the idea right? If I am wrong in believing God then so what, looks stupid but otherwise I follow a moral path instead of having sex with everyone. But if I don't it's not like I get to get any from the ladies with my looks, so heck I rather go to heaven. THINK LONG TERM PEOPLE!!!
