I havent seen it but heard that it is pretty funny. THe anime is so much better.
I just downloaded this series and I couldn't even get through one episode. Every time I started to watch another part of the episode, I had to bend over and half gag and laugh because it is so far off from the anime and the special effects are hilarious. I liked the anime but this is too much...Luna is a stuffed animal for crying out loud! Any opinions?

The girls are indeed cute. Especially Ami's actress
And yes, the live-action version is different from the anime. This is because it is based more on the manga than the anime. From what I hear, though, after a while it deviates from the manga as well.
In any case, the series can be summed up like this: Corny, cheesy, hokey... Gotta get the next episode.
