I would assume this is due to a difference in culture. I mean when you look at the below article of the "Top 100 Animation" of all time coming from a Japanese TV company you can see the Japanese have some varing tastes in what is considered really good. Note some Japanese anime that is very popular in the US such as Cowboy Bebop and Trigun aren't even in the list!

Lol you have a good point there, it is true japanese people have a diferent taste than we do, but that doesn't mean that we cannot watch the real good anime shows in sub mode.

I haven't seen very many good subs, and even less dubs. This mainly because anytime you deal with a translation whether written or verbal you lose part if not most of the original intent. And I believe unless you have spent some degree of time immersed in the culture then even watching in original Japanese can result in skewed interpretation.

And they have "Tom and Jerry" in both lists, now that's interesting... Here in the US the fanboys hate cartoons and in Japan they considered one of them in their top 100 animation list...

I know what you mean, I really liked this anime. I can't wait for the rest to hit the market. The part that was weird for me was, I thought that it was going to be a 4 discs series and I think that it's a 7 discs. Well, either way it's more episodes to watch.
