    Re: sex education

Sadly, today's youth know almost everything about sex. Sex ed isnt gonna help as long as the music videos of today show that it's okay to have sex. There are so many things that our youth are engaged in that promotes sex. Sex ed just promotes the reasons why you shouldnt have sex. It's helped, but not much. And it wont help because so many forces are pushing towards sex is good.

they should make a campaign for sex sorta like what Truth is doing for tobacco
what they're doing now is okay, but they're pretty much focusing on AIDS
they should do it for every STD
there should be commercials featuring people that have STDs and a little thing on the bottom that says "this could happen to you"
instead, they have advertisements for drugs for people with herpes
saying that people with herpes can continue to have sex without the fear of passing it on with the partner
that makes me sick that they are encouraging it
they should concentrate on a cure than make drugs that delays the sores from appearing so people can get laid
    it's ****in sick...

    ....(IMO)

Sex Ed was cr*p when I went to school, None of the teachers even knew what they were saying half the time and just kept repeating themselves and reading straight outta books that were older than me by at least 30 years + the videos were still in black and white, now thats saying something

from the sounds of it some of you have come across some pretty poor sex ed, but it's true what some of you are saying about what kids can see on tv today. mabye we should all be taught by nuns, i expect they'd be good.lol. seriously though mabye we should try and teach it earlier, i got it in year6 which was farly early i guess.

    Re: sex education

ok heres the deal i just had sex ed at the at of school last year. and did it do anything for me? not one think helped me. yes i learned something but most of the stuff i already know. and they should be teaching about HIV's and all the deases that you could get. and so far they havnt im going into the 8 grade next year (ill be turning 15 dont ask) and im hopeing that if i have to take this class again they teach about the dease's. now i do notice that they teach you about the afects of drugs bc one day my woodshop class had to go to different classes and most of the teachers did even take us. so me and my friend went to a class and it was teaching about some drung usses. and bad ones too. they showed vidoes of the women teeling you that they were raped bc some man slipped some drug into her drink. thats why you should never party alone. now i was impressed by that bc most of the students were horrified by what they heard. and it sunk into there minds. but sex ed doesnt do this. and my mom tells me more about sex ed then anything! shes a nurse and she explains the deases better to me then anything eles! i mean come on! thats pathetic! and i do think that it depeans on what the ages of the groups are to the standerd that they should be showing of graphics when i was in the 5 grade and we had sex ed, the grapics were of how the women body and male body worked though cartoon images. and i though that to be aproperet (sorry for my spelling). now as we got older the images turned to the more update. this year was some real graphic images but never of sex. they would show how when a male and female start to make out there body temeratures would go up. that was ok. but im hopeing that they dont show readl sex otherwise thats just plan porn for kids. and thats sad. and many kids 12 + (girls) are getting pregnant! and my mother dilevers atleas 3 childern from teenagers and some smaller. and thatssad. and one girl came in and had HIV nad never knew it. the father gave it to her. thats also why then need to tell you in sex ed that you should always be tested for the sexual deases so you know if you and your partner are clean! and they never do it! thats sad.

    thanks for the sig SasuraiHell!!!!

    Re: sex education

I don't think sex-ed has much to do with anything. You can teach these children everything there is to know about the human reproductive systems and every consequence that comes with it, and they will STILL have sex.

What NEEDS to be done is having an emphasis on the protection. It's terribly difficult to get a hold of any form of protection if you're underage. This is the main reason people keep getting pregnant. If schools would stop teaching the "abstinence-only" technique and made it easier for underage kids to get protection, I think pregnancies and STI/STD transmissions (at least through sex) would drop, even if only slightly. And slightly is better than nothing.

We don't have that big of a problem in Canadian schools. I remember we had the whole condom session with a public health nurse in grade 9. And I'm not saying it's helped much, but I live in a hick province and I think they only thing for these girls to do is get pregnant, sadly enough.

I'm just thinking they could elaborate on the protection aspect of sex, along with making it more accessible. Sadly, it won't stop 12 year olds from having sex (there are too many outside forces) but there are always ways to make it safer for them, but not only explaining the bad things that could happen, but offering them some sort of protection, since anything you seem to say to those young'uns doesn't get through their big, thick skulls.
