It really doesn't matter that you said it 3 posts ago. So it got said again, maybe they were typing while you were posting. I'm certainly not telling what you can and can't do, just pointing out a fact that I'd like you to realize. I'm sure nobody meant you any disrespect.

Macs don't go obsolete on you in half a years time. The current G5 will stay where its at (A damn good machine) for a few more years to come (Unless Intel does something truely amazing, but I doubt it, they fudge things quite frequently.)

Funny, I'm a victim of PC/Windoze because of my software library, but Macs aren't that expensive when you compare similar (quality) hardware. Granted, you could build a PC with some low grade memory & components for $400, but if you want top line parts, Mac is competitively priced. And it's said they're better (...) for graphics and A/V work.

The pointers everyone has given (i.e. service options) are the only way to get the voracious XP to eat less memory. Of course, I upgraded from 728mb to 1.5gb and XP just ate a higher percentage! With nothing running!! Maybe I should listen to my own advice about Macs...

Or you could just buy memory.

If memory is the issue, then get a ram optimizer. Just be careful that you find one that doesn't use alot of ram itself. You can clear up all the temp info that windows and high end programs, like photoshop, store in ram.

Shut down uneeded start up programs. For instance, if you have a new version of itunes, the program will auto start sub programs like "iPodService.exe". If you don't have an IPod, then you don't need that program taking up a meg of ram.

Some of the older Windows Os' would dump the ram when faking a shut-down (hitting start/shutdown-wait for the screen to turn gray//then cancel), but I won't suggest that if you are working with sensitive or time consuming material, becuase you might accidentally loose something you've been working on for a long time.

Still though, the easiest thing to do is clean your hard drive and then defragment it (assuming you have not done it in a long time).
