So, are all of our old accounts, posts, gallery entries, and journals gone now seeing as how I had to re-register?

THanks for the support guys It will take an effort from all of us not to let AO slip away. Many of us lost something in this ordeal, wether it be a high post count, a journal, or some art. The fact is that we can either dwell on what was lost, or look forward to building a new community that will flourish just like the old one.

And I can start looking into an offsite backup solution

just a tought;
mayb you could put the gallery on a other server than the original site

I agree I even if we all lost something Art Journals what not, its not like we can't post the stuff back or make better ^_^
