I would describe salt as sour but tangy
A deathless heart alive with greif
Smiles when it hears of thee
    Whisper now my secret love
Kiss my lips and rise above

PS. There is actually a Philosophical point to the question.
Salt tastes bitter and almost to the point of tastlessness...i guess thats the rock hard bottom definition of the taste of salt without using "salty" =P

I guess salty could be another form of bitterness.

I guess I should let all of you know that describing salty as bitter is physically impossable. Our tastebuds work in such a way that it has receptors for very specific flavors.

    Salty
    Bitter
    Sweet
    Sour
    Savory

The fifth flavor has only been proven recently even though it has been known in Japan for awhile. The flavors do not cross over. If your salt is bitter then you have other things in it.

Hm..good point. I think it's a course, bittery, and tangy flavor. It's a very small crystalized mineral which is grown naturally.
