really this movie must be awesome![]()
A while ago I made a thread about Azumi, a film by Ryuhei Kitamura.
Mr Raven Omega told me I should watch another film from this director called Versus.
(He was even kind enough to supply me with two links so I could buy it online.)
Now that I have bought and watched it I must say, THIS FILM BLEW ME AWAY!
Holy hell it was effing sweet, non stop action /horror/comedy for more than two hours!
The story revolves around an escaped inmate with no name, a girl and some yakuza goons who all try to survive in a strange forrest,
and by strange I mean that everyone who dies in the forrest gets ressurected (hence the name 'Forrest of Resurrection').
Oh yeah, the reason for these rather peculiar occurences is this: the forrest is the 444th gate to 'the other side' (Hell).
This plot is -of course- not the driving force behind this film. It's the kick ass action and characters.
The action is just insanely cool and over the top. Picture a guy who pulls a Beretta, a stubby M4 and a sawn-off shotgun out of thin air or someone shooting a .50 Barret sniper rifle from the hip. Insane martial arts fights are also included of course and even the good 'ol katana gets some wicked screentime.
The actors all range from good to kickass. The main character, his nemesis and the crazy knife fighting Yakuza (Hassun's fave of course) really give outstanding performances.
This film had a very low budget but still feels better than most big budget films. You clearly notice that Mr Kitamura is influenced by Sam Riami, the early Peter Jackson, Romero, Tarantino, Cameron etc. but he still manages to add his own style to the film.
The camera work and the cutting in particular are top of the line.
Versus blows Azumi out of the water, knifes it in the face, shoots it in the nuts and dices the leftovers.
P.S.
I heard Versus 2 is already in production (with a bigger budget), I hope it'll surpass this one but that will be very hard to do.

Yeah I actually came across it at Best Buy about a year ago and knew I had to pick it up. I liked the first half of the movie where everything was kind of set up as a zombie thriller, but they tried to do too much weird crap with it over the last half and the movie kind of felt like it was getting lost in itself. It felt like they just threw something together for an ending with some cool action sequences. All in all I agree, worth checking out, but its not the greatest movie ever either. I give 3/5 rating.
I did like the last part of the film except how retarded they made my favourite character. That was just too freaky. The two cops were genius though, even if their only job was to bring that bigass Barret 50 light into the film.
lol e for everyone. like saikano rated pg with all its sexual content
Sailor Venus!
Oh of course, i remember seeing this thing a few years back while stoned out of my mind and i loved every crimson splattered second of it! I love the scene where the main bloke kills one of the zombies then tries to put on his shades, and the girl disagrees with the new look. Hilarious.
Versus was okay...I guess I just get tired of goriness after about an hour. That's why I got tired of watching Ichi the Killer. But at least Versus had comedy going for it. and there were some pretty creative deaths, and that's always a bonus.
And I remember now, at the top of my lungs in my arms, she dies, she dies.
Controlling you through a chip in your butt since 2004
ooo i saw it!!!!! i liked it when they showed the old samurai flash back and the ending didn't make much sense ot me... there was a lot of blood though and it was veyr unrealistic, it's a good movie but for watching during day and before meals.
