    Violence in Videogames eh?

One of the best moments of Resident Evil 4 is when you enter a Residence, and theres an enemy in (And persumably on) the toilet. You can boot the door down and fill his face with furious lead, and laugh at the same time... But then if you inspect the toilet, it coments on how 'civilised' they are... WTF Leon? You just shot a man trying to take a crap in the face, and your saying he 'may be rather civilised'?!

But you know, violent games come with a warning... so whats the big deal?
    Signatures suck.

Totally agree with Len here, except porn isn't nearly as bad in my opinion as violence. Well, only when it is completely degrading women.

Sexuality is a whole other topic though.

They have it on violent movies, so why not games?

that's both amusing and biased personal opinion/attack on Xbox. Go home PS2/Nintendo Fanboy.

You whine about Xbox being the most adult while PS2 has the first crack at the GTA series, BMX XXX, and PC is putting out games like Singles: Flirt up your life! for crying out loud. Both of which have actual sex content in both. Xbox is made for adults, so grow up and buy one when you've developed the motor skills to control something more complex than elmo. Xbox is actually pretty damn tame compared to some of the games other platforms have put out.

Back on topic though: I belive this law will almost definately pass sooner than later, as censorship and denial of rights is all the rage in Washington these days.

That's what I do. And if you honestly think Xbox is that tame you're in denial. You can't list all the violent titles that Xbox has because most of them do have blood, language, and brutal gameplay.

I don't think the law will occur when graphics get even better. With graphics, the only way systems are going is up, higher quality, more realistic, look at some of the WW II games. Maybe not even so much graphics, but virtual reality specs with your envirionment all around you. As of now, the graphics are good, but not that good. As games become more realistic along with the violence, yeah, most likely restrictions will happen.

Ahem... porn is always degrading to women by definition. My opinion is a little different then most though, I happen to think it's degrading to men as well.

Sexuality is technically the same thing, the only difference being it's implied instead of shown. Though that could be argued as well with some of the outfits they put females in these days. I guess that means that modern sexuality is degrading to women. I know alot of teenagers who feel that way anyway. You know what?. I believe I agree with them.

I think the sexual content of games will be more of a key factor in restricting under age customers than violence will. This violence thing was argued in court before (against Mortal Kombat) but yet no law was put in effect afterwards. The graphics have gotten much better since then, but it will probaly be more about the sexual content of games now not it's violence. when you think about it, unless you're playing a puzzle, board, or card game, all video games have a degree of violence.

I agree with u. I think it shouldn't be sold to minors under 14 or so.

To be honest, if you lower the age required, then it will slowly be lowered more "Hey, he's 16, that's ALMOST 17, right?", and more parents would be outraged.

Fact is, though, parents are outraged by ANYTHING nowadays. Everyone is way too scared "Oh my god, that game vaguely mentions a GUN. My son's not buying that game". Basically, no one is going to raise OR lower the age limit.

Onto the other "violent" aspect of video games, I say that if you believe that a child constantly exposed to violent video games will become violent, then you have a broken child, folks. That's all there is to it. "Hey, look, he's killing someone with a chainsaw. I should do that, too!"

Also, most consumers (yes, I'm looking at you, parents) are LAZY about this. "Well, I wouldn't worry about my child, because I leave him alone ALL THE TIME, and so he's okay to go to the store and buy a game." Parents are usually painfully oblivious.
Maybe I'll come up eith a sig soon... until then, be patient.
