The words are "meditate" and "meditation."
"Mediate" means to referee a dispute, and "mediation" is the noun form.
The waterfall meditation thing is more of a cleansing ritual I believe.

Only a hand full of you people should remember this thread, so it's all good -- ^_^
So, what's the deal with the mediating under waterfalls -- which we often in anime? Is it spiritual or done to facilitate strength and awareness?
I usually see someone making a hand seal (of the Chinese zodiac) and sitting or standing, letting the water hit them in the head. Is this an accurate depiction? What can you tell us about this type of meditation? Do you do it?

It's indeed a cleansing ritual but also a test of endurance and bodily control.
Meditating under a waterfall is extremely difficult (add to that the ice cold temperature of the water).
It's a hard way to make yourself detached from your body so to speak.
If you can do that you'll be able to stand under a waterfal for a very long time, much longer than you could stand with just physical training.

Scotch is t3h 3v1L. That why I've switched to smooth Kentucky bourbon for my pre-church cocktail.
And to add to the discussion: On a lighter note since the waterfall meditation always seems to follow a round of heavy training, it's probably a physical cleansing as well as mental.
