What do you look for in an AMV?

It's one thing if you like anime, but having a passion for AMV's is another step along the way. An AMV, or Anime Music Video is where you would take a song you enjoy, take an anime you enjoy, and put them together in an attempt to make something which looks and sounds good. Harmony and lipsynching are key to being sucessful in this business. There are thousands who try, and a handful who truely do.

So whether you make AMV's, or just watch them.....what do you look for? Do you prefer something flashy? Do you like action or romance? Is it about special effects, or would you settle for something perfectly synched with the music? Have any favorite AMV authors? Discuss what you look for in AMV's

As for myself, the most important things are: The song, because I can't stand an AMV if I don't want to listen to it. The synch, great amvs look like the characters are actually performing to the music. And the anime it's self, I can better appreciate the AMV if I know the background of what the character is going through on the screen.

Don't have an actual favorite AMV creator, but I love Vicbond007's work to this point.

Well the first thing I look for good anime and great music. It needs to have anime that matches the song. If the anime is fighting then I want to hear a good fight song. The same with the music. It has to make sense and explain the anime. Then after it catches my attention, I look for the meaning of the AMV. There has to be a purpose behind it. These are some of the questions I ask myself when I watch AMVs. What is the creator trying to say? Why did the creator use this song? To sum it up, good music, good anime, and purpose are what I look for in an AMV.

I'm not much of a fan of AMV's but should I bring myself to watch one, here's what I wanna see. First of all, the music HAS to fit the video. So no Begees in the middle of a swordfight. Secondly, I wanna see the characters move in ways that fit the music. I don't mean it has to be a 100% but I DO want a good amount of scenes that actually flow with the music.
And the last thing is, that if I see a boob bounce more than 20 cm's or anything else close to soft porn, the AMV's going straight to the trash.

The most important part of an AMV in my opinion is how well the song matches the video.
I can watch AMVs even when the music really isn't my style if the song matches the video.

That's what it comes down to really, matching. If everything fits and blends well then It'll gain my attention.

Re: What do you look for in an AMV?

first why I look for AMV's are for I want to see if the anime is good (after I watched the amv about 10 times I get the anime series) after 100 times I just listening to the music and just remember what was happens in the AMV.

I like to make AMV's but I feel I don’t have any experience in any AMV making program so i probably wait or never make one (I really like the effects that they make in some AMV's and then maybe I will see them 200 times :P)

sometimes i look at the starts of the anime episode just to get to see the what is now called, hm.

Re: What do you look for in an AMV?

For me the importance is the mood, the feeling. If the song fits well with the anime and gives the wished mood, then it is good imo.

To me it is clear, already from the name (Anime + Music) that the thing here is combining anime and music, so the best thing is to match them well, but in a way that it gives a good mood.
