Simply put, the U.S. gained land via land purchase or despute treaty.
The USA stole the land of the Native Americans, they forced them to leave their land and they sent them to reservations, isn't that stealing?

I think that qualifies as a "dispute treaty"
we keep the land, we gave them casinos
    heh...

    yeah, well...
that's the "evil white man" for you
so... the US stole land from one group of people when we were broke mutha****as
    but we stopped after that
when we got the cash and the firepower to do shit, we started paying countries like Spain and France for territories
back in the day, they paid Spain $20 million for my country (Philippines)

    the old Colonial American days
    land = power

I did think of that after I posted, but no, that comes under trade disputes. Some of that land was bought from the indians, some won after wars. Since each tribe is technically a diffrent nation, the US deals with them diffrently.

In those cases that the indians were found to be wronged, the government has made some amends. Rather it's enough or not is a matter of debate. But my statement still stands. From itleast WWII forward we have not taken any land by force. Those that we did wrong we have made amends to.

The point is we are not going to take those lands NOW! We are not going to invade forigen nations for lands or resources. It's as ludicris as saying were going to go back to slavery just because George Bush says so. Just because he says it does not mean it would happen.

Innerhell: You don't know how right you were. I spend a few years in the Catawba indain reservation - nice place by the way - and one of the major arguments with the state was rather or not they could build a casino on Mertyl Beach with the land settlement money they got from the federal government (they were given a lump sum of cash to buy land that would become their reservation - it was a lot of money too!).

Our country is based on a system of checks and balances. It would require much more then one person to do what you guys are saying Geroge Bush would do.

well, we didn't invade Iraq for "land or resources"
we did it for the sake of the country, for freedom, and all that jazz
and because Bush wanted to finish the job his old man started

also, we don't own Iraq, now do we?
we liberated it from Hussein and gave it back to the people
we gave them a piggy-back ride and helped set up a government (just like in Afghanistan)
and for some reason, we're still there today
    trying to police the world

Re: What if Fidel Castro dies tonight

So, if we did it for land and resources...why don't we have more oil? Perhaps you should actually accept the truth that George Bush did it to free the Iraqi people and because he thought it was the best course of action to keep this country safe. If you want to disagree with rather or not that was the best course of action to take, your in your rights, but to make rediculious blanket statements like that shows a lack of education on the subject.

Why is it always Iraq? No one ever says were taking over Afganistan for it's resources and land. Maybe that's because were not. What is the point of keeping Iraq? If we did, we'd have to keep a much larger military presence there then we have right now. We'd have to ship in many more "Oil Men" then we have right now. We'd have to kick out all our allies that are there (and yes, were not the only one's there). And then...we'd have to let them into the union. Boy, that would be really good, wouldn't it.

I have a novel Idea. Why don't we free the country, make them and ally and then trade for the oil? Oh wait....we might already be doing that.

But for the sake of argument...you must answer two questions if your going to convince anyone that your correct.

    1. Why would George Bush take over Iraq? What does he get (I'm assuming in the name of the american people). You saying so is not a valid reason.

    2. How would he do it? How many troops would he need? What would be the resistance factor if he did? etc.

Come on, you brought it up now please defend your position. I really want to hear your reasoning behind it (more then 'because I say so').
    ----

I have to admit, Fadel looks good in a suit. Maybe they are becomming the next state. He looks like most the politcians I know. . All we need is a soundbite of him saying "This president...." and he could be running for congress.
