All aspects of some games such as turn based vs real time, single character vs multiple, full control versus partial (text rpg), etc etc etc are all simple categories or sub-genres of the ever so massive RPG genre. Things like experiance, levels, mystical monsters, and magick are all "classic" additions that RPG's are expected to have. An RPG is one of those things that no longer has a true form due to the huge scope of games that are considered to be mainly classified under the RPG genre.
