Do any of you own a HITACHI Flatscreen monitor...? I have one bought yesterday! I need you guys and girls to tell me should I sell my car and buy an Alienware or Sell the desktop I have now and save up for the the parts for a custom( it would take abot 6 months to save up the other half). Your vote is what I'll do. Oh and keep posting about your comp. specs too I like too hear about a good comp. once in a while.

First of all, I'd go for a custom PC - not only does it let you choose exactly what pieces you want but it also eliminates the chance of paying for something you really didn't want to get. Alienware, on the other hand, is just one of those lables that cost you extra money and I, personally, would keep as far away from those as possible.

Also almost all major computer hardware tests have pretty much confirmed that AMD's processors are faster than Intel's on many occasions (MP3 encoding with multiple instances of Lame went to Intel as it's got its 'let's pretend we've got two CPUs' HT technology that sometimes makes it faster in such conditions). Therefore if you can't get a P4 processor really cheap, I'd go for an AMD-based system. But this is just my opinion and therefore questionable.

And then my specs (my good ol' workhorse):

    Asus A7V8X-X Motherboard
    Athlon Thunderbird 1Ghz
    512mb 333Mhz DDR RAM
    SB Live! 5.1 Player
ATi Radeon 64Mb DDR (the first one, later called 7500)
    Hollywood Plus MPEG-2 decoder board
    40Gb HDD
Sony's CD- & CD-RW- drives and a Pioneer DVD- drive (three drives)
19" monitor, by Orion (a piece of utter crap)

It's a bit outdated, but works.

    Sakaki:

1.83 gigahertz AMD Athlon XP 2700+
    Maxtor 200 GB HDD
    WDC 180 GB HDD
    PLEXTOR CD-R USB drive
    SONY DVD-ROM
    TOSHIBA CD-ROM XM-6202B
    Gigabyte GA-7DXE
    3GB (PC2700) SDRAM
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro (GFX card)
    D-Link DFE-530TX+ PCI Adapter
    Linksys NC100 Fast Ethernet Adapter
    Gateway 17 [Monitor]
    Windows XP Professional
    Philips 5.1 Surround Card
Lantec LANBoy Custom case with a 524 watt power supply

I have a few other computers (four normal comps and two servers) and a laptop but, I won't give those specs unless you want them.

    3GHz P4 (Northwood)
    1GB Corsair XMS RAM (PC3200)
    Abit AI7 Motherboard
ATI Radeon X800 Pro vid card
    Western Digital 120GB SATA HDD
    Seagate 40GB IDE HDD
LG Dual Layer DVD Burner - GSA 4160B
    LG DVD-ROM
    Samsung 17" monitor
    WinXP Home
Antec SuperLANBOY Case with 400W PSU

This system runs alright, would overclock it but there's no need atm and can't be bothered forking out the cash for a decent cooling solution. That and I don't feel like removing the motherboard just to install a new CPU cooler.
I'm also currently looking at purchasing a 12" G4 iBook for uni.
