    Me I use 1280 x 960.

Use the resolution that do not tired your eyes. On high resolution, the refresment rate are lower. Or use resolution recomended for your software, to see all the menu and Icon.

Right now on my laptop, its 1400 x 1050 or something like that. But I usually don't use my laptop, its mainly for school work. My PC's resolution is 1024 x 768.

for the resolution best suited to you monitor go by size.... 1024x768 is best on a 15inch monitor, 17 inch is 1152x864 and 19 inch is 1280x960 and 21 inch is the next one up so on and so fourth....

so mine is set to 1152x864 (at 75hrz refresh-as fast as mine can go at this rez helps to prevent the graphical tears in games )

My rule of thumb is that if I have to strain to read the window menus, then the resolution should be taken down a notch. I use 1024 x 768 on a 17 in. monitor for that reason.
