I'd have to say Samurai X, which is the japanese version of Rurouni Kenshin that shows blood and gore, and lots of it!!!

Umm...Both Samurai X and Rurouni Kenshin are Japanese. One is an OVA and the other is a TV series type.

Samurai Champloo, of course! The hip-hop, the fighting, the plot! Awesome. It's kinda perverted, but it's cool how it's in the past. Also I learned alot from that show, like why Japanese schools make girls where those short skirts.
